Scratch Part 1: Drawing
Lesson 1: Intro
Objective: To introduce students to Scratch Computer Programming.
To Learn how to draw in vector mode.
Activator:
How many of you have done some computer programming?
Mini Lesson:
Watch a short video about Scratch.
Learn how to draw in Vector Mode (For now always draw in vector mode!)
Student Engagement:
Create a Scratch Account with your partner. (One account to share!)
1. Use my email address: [email protected]
2. You must not use your lastname as part of your username
3. Write your username and passwords on my list.
Then:
Working in assigned pairs, each person will draw a simple sprite that appears to be walking (has two costumes).
Wrap-up: Save your work. Sign out of your account.

Lesson 2: Bitmap Drawing
Objective: To learn how to draw sprites and animate them in Scratch.
Activator: In your composition books, tell me about your experience with coding(computer programming.); for example, "I've never coded before.", "I have done some tutorials on code academy.", or "I have programmed a computer game in Scratch.".
Mini Lesson:
Quick tour of the Scratch desktop.
Learn how to draw and name a sprite.
Learn how to use the Bitmap Drawing Tools.
Setting the center of a sprite.
Learn to create costumes.
Hand out Sprite rubric.
Student Engagement:
Draw a Sprite in Bitmap Mode
Name your sprite and costumes.
Create costumes for your sprite.
Experiment with all the bitmap drawing tools.

Objective: To learn how to draw sprites and animate them in Scratch.
Activator: What challenges did you have yesterday when editing your sprites?
Mini Lesson:
Looking at the vector drawing tools.
What happens when you convert between the two drawing modes?
Student Engagement:
Draw a sprite in vector mode.
Name your sprite and costumes.
Create costumes for your sprite.
Experiment with all the vector drawing tools.
Wrap-up: Save your sprite.
Extension:
Create another sprite, or more costumes. In what creative ways can you animate your sprite?

Lesson 4: Compare and Contrast Bitmap and Vector Drawing
Objective: To learn the pros and cons of Bitmap mode and Vector mode. Learn how to program your sprite to switch costumes. Learn how to save your sprites to your backpack.
Activator: What are at least two differences between vector and bitmap drawing in Scratch? Write in your composition books.
Mini Lesson:
Create a chart of pros and cons.
Learn how to save to your back pack.
Learn how to program your sprite to switch costumes.
Student Engagement: Work on bitmap and vector sprites. Make sure to put them into your backpack. Refer to the rubric as necessary.
Wrap-up: Share your sprites with the class
