FAQ's
Do we have homework?
I never assign homework in GT, though sometimes kids choose to do work outside of GT.
Do we work on projects?
Sometimes we work on projects; such as, building/design projects, computer projects or written assignments.
I hope we have fun, will we?
I hope that you have fun in GT. The more time and energy you put into GT, the more that you will get out of it.
If I have important work to do in another class, do I have to go to GT?
I encourage you to come to GT as often as you can. Your teacher will tell you if s/he thinks that you shouldn't go to GT. If you are worried about missing something ask your teacher for their opinion.
Does GT take up a whole period?
I create my classes to take up a whole period. If you have to take a quiz before coming to GT, or leave a few minutes early for a valid reason I understand.
Are we going to use tools to build things?
Occasionally we use tools to build things. Kids use tools more often in the Future City Club.
If you stop GT in 6th grade, can you join in 7th or 8th grade?
Yes.
Do I get a grade in GT?
No. I do not give grades. I do try to give you feedback on your work. I will award some certificates of accomplishment.
Can I get kicked out of GT?
Occasionally teachers will recommend that kids be withdrawn from GT because they are not being responsible about their work. Parents have to approve the withdrawal. In 6 years, I have had two students withdrawn from GT by teachers. Sometimes parents choose to withdraw their kids.
Will we use technology?
Yes. We use technology quite a bit in GT, but we are limited by the resources that are available.
If I have a test or project during GT, do I go GT or to class?
You should always check with your teacher first. They will tell you if you have to stay for a test or to work on a project (some are happy to have you do it during tutorial.)
Will we do hands on activities?
Yes. I try to do a lot of hands on activities with the GT kids. As long as kids are responsible about staying focused and cleaning up afterwards, we will.
